Mind if I ask why you are asking?
Could it be that you fancy a career in F1 and are trying to decide on the appropriate university to get a relevant degree at?
Soton has excellent F1 links- Adrian Newey was a graduate of the aeronautical engineering MEng.
Cranfield has a motorsport-specific degree, which I don't know much about. They do have a department that does crash test safety on nosecones for the FIA.
Myself, I'm hoping to go to Bristol in September, for aeronautical engineering. Not exactly in F1 country, but it has excellent links with Airbus, and the RAF and Army Young Officer programs are both active there. So plenty of possible careers, even *shock horror* outside F1!

I'm tempted to do Southampton's Race Car Aerodynamics MSc. The job market is very thin just now, and my prospects as a graduate are very meh.

hey,
ur rt... for as long as i can remember now i ve been tryin hard to get into someplace good. Thing is i will be finishing my undergrad in a week, I have
admits from Cranfield(Motorsports) Southampton( Race car aero) and Imperial(Aerodynamics).
Now that i have the admits, im unable to decide. I really dun have much work exp,
so Cranfield doesnt seem like the correct choice. But with the new regulations etc, im assuming the need for aerodynamicits wud reduce atleast for an year or 2(many agree on this and many disagree) and the course at Soton is based only on F1 and no other form of motorsports from what i found out. I am a foriegn student, so if i cant hit a job(any form of motorsports) im back home, where motorsprts is still a few decades behind.
Im thinking if i shud just defer my admit and get some relevant work exp, which again is hard where i come from.

Hey guys, it really depends what you want to do. Ask yourself seriously if you want to do a specific job in motorsport. Cranfield is most suitable for someone wanting to learn all aspects of motorsport. I did a mech eng degree before cranfield and I didnt learn too much on the techincal side (structures, aero) but learnt alot on race engineering, business of motorsport. However I did a very spcific thesis ( for a sportscar manufacturer based in the south of england) in composites and now work for a company doing exactly that. The industry contacts throught Cranfield are numerous but you have to be willing to work and go find things for yourself. Most important thing is to get out and meet people who can open doors it is all about who you know! I can't speak for soton or imperial but they are in the wrong place! Look for motorsport valley! and where the industry is! Remember if you need to go to a race or go to see a team they will most likly be based in and around the midlands. Remember as well there are many routes into F1 and there are many other forms of motorsport other than F1.
You need work eperience tho for your CV, you need to prove your passion. Go work for a formula ford team as a mechanic or help out for free at you local events, anything to put on you CV. Beofre Cranfield I worked at Cytec for free and actually got to go to Honda F1 with it.
Anything else i havent mentioned?

HA no sorry to dissapoint you guys I am not.
Cranfield doesn't have a FSAE team. It is more geared up to going and finding something more advanced! not too great if your an aero guy to be fair.
It is done on the premise that you can work for an F3 or FF team which is better on your CV. most people have done FSAE before and it is seen as a bit amature for the postgrad MSc ( I know people will disagree but I actually believe this)
You will be pretty busy with your group project in the year which is generally done for someone (FIA institue for regulations, Williams hybrid power)
