If you drive a Koenigsegg, like I do, that's the typical sound after the aluminium engine-block has adapted its
thermal expansion to the carbon fibre body, when the anti-torque pins lock into place.

the engine "ticks" as it cools down. Just the metal relaxing after a good session.

My Koennigsegg does't tick as much as my Bugatti Royale...

Christian von Koenigsegg built me a special edition, called CCX^2, don't know xactly what he meant by "squared" though.

koenigsegg^2 =

1 engine
4 seats
16 wheels
1 steering wheel
4 pedals
1 handbrake
4 deca-whatever-dral doors
9 mirrors (1 internal, 4 external) - sorry about my maths here, still trying to understand it :)

and it goes on

That's even more annoying if you have a time machine like I do. I ticks all the bloody time. #-o

If this sound is NOT the heated metal cooling (it probably is), then it could be the fuel system releasing pressure.

In some cars you hear oil dripping onto the shallow part of the oil pan as well, which is a louder rhythmic clicking.

I don't know, perhaps Christian was referring to the driver? :(

If its got 16 wheels, we might have seen it on Thunderbirds.
The ticking on mine is usually the exhaust cooling down, there are a couple of valves that motor shut after a while, but the constant pink-pink noise is the exhaust - when hot the original used to just tap on the rear valance...

Mine lets out a sigh of exasperation and asks me not to drive anymore.

Or its the sound of all the loose bits of metal falling back into the sump...

My loose 'bit of metal' was the valve head, that had broke off when the timing belt snapped loose, as the piston crashed into the open valves.

I never found the valve head, but the hole in the side of the block, and the top of the piston looking as beaten as an anvil was a clue as to what had happened.

I love Honda engines, bit those timing belts are whores if you don't change them regularly.
