Sticking accelorator pedal has resulted in Toyota's going too fast.... something the F1 team was never able to achieve. Maybe they could have done with them iffy pedals

Toyota accelerator recall (18 deaths).
Ford wasn't banned for the exploding Pinto (27 deaths).
Firestone wasn't banned for the tire fiasco (101 deaths).
Chevy wasn't banned for the side mounted exploding fuel tanks in pickups (725 deaths).
China wasn't banned for all the crap they send us with melamine to artificially increase the nitrogen levels of "milk" to make it into milk (~8000 pets, and 8 babies).
Audi wasn't banned for Quattros accelerating into peoples houses in the 80s (google failed me).
I wasn't banned from the bar that night when I got in a fight with... oh wait (1 angry person).
Let me guess, that senator was GOP? I just checked, of course he is a nationalistic Republican. If Toyota was an American company, then he would have a different tune, I am sure.
Cars with their increasing complexity year on year, and streamlining production more and more, this was bound to happen.
Making a car is a system, designed from the ground up, and if a system has a mistake, it will be repeated. The simple fact companies like Toyota have forced American companies to increase their quality, has likely saved more lives than they have lost because of this problem. Toyota is fixing the problem, and was doing so before the government got involved. Chevy and Ford both hid from allegations, denying it entirely for ages.

Ford allegedly was aware of this design flaw but refused to pay for a redesign. Instead, it was argued, Ford decided it would be cheaper to pay off possible lawsuits for resulting deaths.

Toyota might as well be an American company for how many Americans they employ, this is about the government protecting its investment in the Big 3. The sad thing is that "overall quality" and the six sigma QC stuff was supposed to be Toyota's claim to fame, god knows no one's buying their cars because they're sporty.Giblet wrote:Let me guess, that senator was GOP? Many European companies, typically Swedish, have been taken for a ride when entering the US-market, lured by the sheer potential in it, introducing new technology just to be slammed by the Naders and the scheisters.
That market can be a death-trap for those who don't prepare carefully, why I'm surprised to see Toyota in this pickle.
