What happens to used F1 cars?

I ask myself many times, what do teams do with cars that they don't need anymore. I do know that they are kept for two years inhouse due to secret technology, but let's take the Minardi team for an example. Not really any revoltionary tech there and the last proper Minardi was made in 2005?

It's really an individual thing for each team. Some retain their cars, for later sale (for example, Ferrari), while others wind up in museums. But sadly, some cars are scrapped.

BMW Sauber used the F1.06 for demonstration runs in their traveling theme park "BMW Sauber Pit Lane Park" in 2008.
No Idea what happened to it after that

I know of Ferrari's corse clienti, borrow an F1 car..but surely cars from backmarkers, average teams must still reside somewhere.
Are there no FIA regulation concerning last season/out of action cars?

that is my all time favorite...late paul morgans (co founder of illmor)son peter morgan did restore this beauty ..it was in Goodwood last year... [-o<
A lot of cars are given to drivers as a present when they retire or as a sign of
respect to what the driver brought to the team..when clinching titles or leaving for another team..
was it rosberg receiving a williams as a parting gift or barrichello from Brawn..I seem to remeber someone of the drivers mentioning this recently..
my boss actually has one of the red cars in his private collection of the turbo aera.

Mclaren seem to have them scattered randomly. The most successful ones make it the the boulevard at the MTC. There are some in the old premises and a few in a basement tunnel at the MTC which was supposed to be a museum area but no one sponsored it like planned so its just a storage type area.
Dont know about the rest. It goes through my mind too, bet there are a few in random places that people have forgotten about!

Some minardi chassis were bought up and are at Mosport, where you can drive them for a fee.
Thousands of dollars, 2 day course, starting in a tin top, then a 1600cc open wheel, then an f3 or something, then the F1.
They say the things are so terrifying to drive, nobody goes beyond their limits. The cars were refitted with a normal gear change instead of the sequential.
This is all from memory, and might nto be entirely correct, but the gist is the same. I remember a figure like 8k for the weekend.

Good ol' Paul Stoddart.

So the way it seems to bo, is that random things happen to them. Either mothballed, turned into showcars, or as someone pointed out, scrapped...

Actually, many of the parts are tested to failure for data acquisition/correlation as well.
Which yeah, means the cars end up unusable scraps after that.
Although some pieces do end up on eBay or sold off privately too it seems.

There was a 1990 car, can't remember the team, on that site few years back, Cosworth V8, for as little as 90.000 euros in "ready to race" condition.

The Sultan of Brunei bought many of the 90's and early 2000's winning cars. I don't know if he is still doing that or not. He would display them with a highlight film running behind the car in a loop.
