Running inters on the front and slicks on the back

Hi,

I was wondering, would there ever be a benefit of running a car with slicks on the rear and inters on the front, and if so is it legal?

Could there be an advantage of say, the inters clearing a bit of water and giving slick rears good traction? I know when Williams tested a 6 wheeled F1 car with 4 rear wheels, they said that they could have run slicks on the rear 2, as the 2 tyres forward would clear all the water to give them dry traction?

Might seem a bit of a strange question, and I am aware that todays tyres and suspension are so finely tuned that you would probably get horrific handling charecteristics if this was tried.

As far as I know you'll have to run the same tires on the front & rear.

I think that he's think more hypotheticaly lol.


It's a good idea! But I can't help but think that the spray from the inters would go straight to the slicks. And think of what would happen around a corner- I would imagine that the front and rear tyres don't follow each other precisely.

And the understeer would be horriffic.

Oh! Nearly forgot- the inters and wets have different diameters, which would mess up the rake setup of the car.

Good idea, but doesn't really seem feasable to me. Maybe someone else could correct me.
