Alonso discharged from hospital after cycling accident

The Alpine F1 Team has confirmed that Fernando Alonso has been dicharged from the hospital to continue his recovery from his cycling accident at home.

The Spaniard was involved in a cycling accidet last Thursday when he was hit by a car while cycling near Lugano in Switzerland. The Spaniard was immeditaly taken to hospital where x-rays revealed that the two-time Formula One world champion suffered fractures to his jaw.

The Oviedo-born underwent a corrective surgery on Friday morning and stayed at the hospital for a 48-hour observation period. Alonso is set to make his return to the pinnacle of motorsport with the newly-rebranded Renault F1 Team that will be called Alpine F1 Team from the 2021 F1 season. The French squad has confirmed that the 39-year-old has left the hospital and will continue his recovery at home.

"He will now have a short period of complete rest before progressively resuming training to undertake preparation for the start of the season," read Alpine's statement.

"As always, thank you for your best wishes for Fernando's recovery," the team added.

Alonso reacted to the statement of the Alpine F1 Team, saying that "Thanks everyone for support . It was very heartfelt."
