BAR launch their 006 (technical view)

By on

B.A.R have presented their 2004 challenger, named BAR006. With both Button and Sato, they aim for top places in several grand prix, and maybe even wins. The aims are set high, together with Button's demands towards the team.
The result is a visibly changed car, with however the same colour scheme as last year's car.

The new car looks in total a little more sleek, however when looking from the sides, sidepods do not seem to have changed that much.

In the front, the nose is now lower than with its predecessor, which is a general trend apparently in recent years of Formula One. Together with that, the front wing is now much more bent down in the middle, compared to only a little bulge before.

Further to the back, the airhapper above the driver's helmet seems not to have changed compared to last year. However it must be noted that this configuration was not used until half of last season.

The sidepods on the other hand are more rounded in front, with seemingly smaller air inlets. The rounded front may be highly necessary, since the lack of barge boards on the presentation car. Flipups seem to have undergone a little facelift, although looking very similar to what was present on the 2003 specification. The rear of the car looks very well shaped, however not as compact as on top cars like the MP4/19 and Ferrari's F2004.

Overall, this car looks a decent evolution of its predecessor, with a new nose and more rounded shapes all over the car. Together with a new gearbox, and in fact a complete new rear, and the new Honda engine the team should be able to deliver good results. It remains however to be seen how reliable the Honda engine will be, since it has not proven much reliability so far in testing.
