My New McLaren Coffee Table

Post

Hello!
Just thought I would share a picture of a new Coffee Table which I got as a gift for my Dad.

Image

The block itself is from a 1985-1987 McLaren F1 (1.5 litre TAG Porsche). The top half is made from Aluminium and bottom half has some kinda Magnesium alloy.

Come with a COA with detailed history as to which races it was in and actually won the 1986 Austrian Grand Prix (With Alain Prost).

Must admit I was shocked to see that it competed in 3 seasons!

Yeah its certainly very unique and special! I never even knew Porsche powered McLaren in the 80s until I seen this.

How exactly did your dad acquire this race-winning F1 engine block? :wtf: It must have been expensive!

No idea how it come about, some bloke had 7 blocks from that era sat in a store room somewhere. Some had history and others didn't. Luckily this one did, and come with the certificate from McLaren to verify its history!

Yeah the guy who made it into a coffee table made some vinyl sheet that reflected the colour scheme of the car and logos from that era.

its excellent, but dont you think its quite sad for the engine, an engine which has Won Formula One races is now a coffee table with a model car, poor engine, but great coffee table!

Very nice table. Notice how the collar surrounds the engine on top view. Very nice.
It's not sad for the engine to end up like this. It's a great honor. It could just as good be melted down and an ordinary road engine casted from the metall.

I want it now!

You should rebuild the engine into it's former glory.

Sweet. I was considering something similar with my kitcar's first crossflow engine which is sat in my garage having decided to let a rod out the side at Llandow circuit. Not quite the same though!
