When McLaren is the only top-team without an engine-deal for 2014, as far as we know that is, any ideas what will come?

Mercedes, BMW or in-house engine.

I think they'll continue with the Merc engines, hasn't Whitmarsh said that the team have no intention of changing? I don't have a source for this, I think I heard it on one of the build up programmes.

AFAIK: they're still in partnership with Mercedes until 2015; or that might be until 2012 with an option for 2013-2015.

It would make sense if PURE is indeed backed by a serious entity, like Peugeot perhaps?

Peugeot never could stand Renault winning the way they have over the past years, why taking them on together with McLaren would be one way to deal with the situation, not that it worked out all that well the last time they tried in 1995.

Very good point. even if Peugeot threw some money in the pot to get there name involved (renault/mecachrome style) to help fund a PURE + Mclaren engine. Free engines for Mclaren. It would make finacial sence to PURE aswell with big names involved..may make there engine more saleable. I'm yet to have herd anything from PURE since the change to V6's though. Anyone know if there still interested in F1?

I see no reason in why McLarenw ould want to go into a partnership with pure/peugeot. The Peugeot engines were pure crap, in the 6/7 years they were used in f1 they did not much more then be unreliable and down on power. I, as McLaren would rather have an engine in the back of my car from an manufacturer that is know to make good engines then an engine from a builder led by a guy that cannot be trusted, possibly backed by a manufacturer that has never won a race in Formula 1 and its only podiums were due to luck. Imo VW AG seems a quite logical choise, if they enter it, which is pretty unclear. The audi brand has won in anything they entered in, and dominated it most of the time, in Le Mans they were pretty quick in the first try and has dominated afterwards. I can laso imagining them having a bit of trying to get the championship in first try, trying to give Mercedes a big middlefinger, because if you look at it, McLaren Mercedes has barely been succesful, they claimed 3 titles since 1995, they were alwatys there, but jsut not good enough. Winning out first time for audi shows imo a bit like; 'look guys, it is your engines that were the problem all along'.

Audis credentials in Le Mans crumbles somewhat when there´s a 50% chance of actually winning it...

If you want to talk about car manufacturers that actually has dominated, and done it against the best in the world it´s Porsche you want to call, not Audi.

I agree with ajdavison2.
I definitely remember Whitmarsh saying in an interview that McLaren would definitely not be manufacturing their own engine anytime in the foreseeable future.
I can't be sure but I seems to also remember him hinting that they were happy with their Merc partnership and that there wasn't any reason why they would be changing it.
I think it's been a very succesful partnership for Merc and with the way their works team are performing at the moment I'm sure they'd like to keep their engine in a car that's able to fight for podiums.
Even if the works Merc team does improve surely it would be better for them to have their engines in 2 of the front running teams - it would be excellent for their image if 2 of the front running teams were powered by Merc engines.

If there was going to be an in-house engine effort from McLaren then it really should have started by now. If we don't hear anything this season then they must be partnering with PURE or another manufacturer like Audi. The fact that Red Bull has signed up with Renault into the new turbo era might well point in that direction because quite often those deals are a reaction to something on the grapevine.

Audi has quite dominated Rallying with their Quattro, and so they did from 2000 till 2005, this was with gasoline, so the 'Audis credentials in Le Mans crumbles somewhat when there´s a 50% chance of actually winning it...' imo doesnt count, anyone could have come up wih a brilliant design, good finances and a good engine could have brought on the fight.

I am sure that Audi can come in F1 and win races/championships in their first season, they have shown incredibly well in any other series in their first season and with the lack of manufacturers I'd asume in F1 it makes Audi's chances even better.

Win in their first season? Hmm... the last team to claim they could do that [first RACE, in fact] was BAR. Oops...

I'm pretty sure audi is out. They were the driving force behind the inline-4 for 2014 and the whole reason they switched to the V6 was because audi pulled out. Most likely they will stick with mercedes. In spite of everything, I see no reason for the partnership to change.
