After considering going the Sky Sports route to watch races this year, I came to the conclusion..screw them, I would go watch a race in person instead. So as you might have guessed by now, Sepang it is. I am after a bit of advice from anyone who might have been to this event before. I have got a 3 day ticket in K1, and a hotel booked in the Chinatown area of KL, near the Panar Seni station, which is in turn close to the KL Sentral station. I'm not really sure of the best way to travel to the event, pre booked bus seems a bit tedious, KLIA express from Sentral station to KLIA then shuttle bus seems very good, and a 3 day ticket is only 120 MR, (£25). However looking at the timetable, it only runs til 17:00 on the Friday, which is after the open pit lane. There will be 3-4 of us going so I have wondered if we are better of befriending a taxi driver and hiring him for the 3 days. I have no idea of the cost of taxis so any advice on this, or any other advice relating to KL or the race weekend would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Your really need to make sure you get a good taxi driver and a reasonable price. They are notorious for charging extremely high price for tourist. KLIA Express is a good choice. I think Sepang International Circuit has a booth at KL Sentral for any inquiry (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong).

i'm a Malaysian who live in Kuala Lumpur.

KLIA express from Sentral station to KLIA then shuttle bus is the best option if you want to get there faster.

do not take a cab because for sure they will over charge you!!!!
(if you unlucky, one way price from KL to Sepang circuit could be double of your 3 days ticket price!!!)

if you want to enjoy the scenery of Malaysia from KL to Sepang F1 circuit then take the bus is the best. All the bus is air conditioning.

About the weather during the race, i think it's 80% raining on that day. it might be "super hot & humid" in the afternoon but by 2 p.m onward normally it will be very very very heavy downpour especially the date is in the shifting season between winter to spring! and sometimes it comes without any clear sign and if that occur then 1/3 of the circuit might be heavy downpour, the other 1/3 is dry and another 1/3 just a light rain.

it is good for us as a spectator and the race strategy from the driver

WELCOME TO MALAYSIA AND PLEASE ENJOY THE RACE....

you will love and enjoy the weather! english is widely spoken in Malaysia. no worry about the language barrier.

if you looking for holiday.... i suggest you go to penang (also known as food heaven of malaysia) and langkawi island.

beware of pick pocket as you planned to stay at cheap hotel around Pasar Seni a.k.a Central market (place where the local art product and cultural thing of malaysia sell)

Thanks for the detailed reply Chepoi. Booked tickets for klia express shuttle bus last week. I fly out to see some friends in manilla tomorrow, then to KL on Thursday so arrive at LCCT I think. Is Klia express still the best way to get to our hotel or are airport taxis any better?

p.s... now adding rain coat to my luggage

like in any country, one should always make it a point to approach the taxi and not let them approach you. Always discuss the all-in fare first (toll+ passenger + luggage) then the destination before boarding, and always give them a firm counter offer to give them the impression that its not your first visit. learning a few phrase of Malayu will help too. If you feel its too high dont board. Can also try approaching to taxi at the drop off area (departure area) instead of arrival.

At KLIA, there is limo service right after custom, where they offer a standard taxi fare to city. They are slightly more expensive than normal meter taxi, but wont get rip off

chepoi's advice is good. If you follow that, you'll be ok.
The upcoming Sepang race could be a wet one, since we've been having evening thunderstorms last few weeks. Heavy downpour may red flag the race just like a few years ago.

Anyway, welcome to Malaysia. You'll love the food & the super friendly people here.

I attended last year's race , I would agree that a taxi might be the best option if you intend to get to you hotel fast .I had a shuttle and train ticket last year but stood in a queue for 2.5 hours to board a shuttle between the circuit and the airport train station as the shuttles were way to few (Saturday) . On race day it was better with about a 45 min wait before being able to board a shuttle.

Better go to circuit early. Plus GP2 season start at Sepang so there a lot more race to watch beside F1.
