DRS flap pivot point

Are there any rules governing where the pivot point of the DRS flap must be?? is it mandatory to be on the upper end of the DRS flap or can they experiment putting it in the middle so that a bigger flap can be flat when opened...

Yes it is mandatory that the pivot has to be at the back, top of the rearmost and uppermost segment of wing. You have 20mm play IIRC, but that's it.
