Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello has been cleared to drive in this afternoon's Malaysian Grand Prix without a controversial new safety device, officials said in a statement.
Barrichello won special dispensation to ditch the Head and Neck Support (HANS) after lodging complaints with race stewards and medical officials.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the HANS device has been used in CART racing for years. I cannot remember seeing any CART drivers not using it. Does Rubens have a genetic propensity that causes him to suffer when he wears it? I have not had the pleasure (or not) of trying one on, but anything that contributes to the wellbeing of the driver should, IMHO be promoted.
