Late Season Updates

Post

First of all, I'll preface this with the fact that this is my first season following F1 from pre-season testing to the final race.

Are the last-minute updates we're seeing a common thing? Or are Ferrari and Red Bull only pushing out updates this late into a season because of the tight title battle? When do you USUALLY see the last round of updates come out?

Cheers.

Also, James Allison and Pat Fry both have mentioned that the stability of the aerodynamic regulations to 2013 are an important asset to keep developing this year's cars, as it's not a wasted effort. It's interesting anyway, since they can try their developments on track already, instead of having to wait until February next year.

Last year we had the same thing with Ferrari in the last races. They were testing out a complete new front wing concept. They ended up actually racing it in those rounds. So updates, even prototypes for next year, are usefull.
