Person changes hotel room

Post

More than a dozen grieving relatives of passengers from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 have been kicked out of their hotel rooms in Kuala Lumpur.

The relatives were staying at the Cyberview Hotel to await news of the missing flight but they were forced to give up their hotel rooms to the Ferrari F1 Team which is in town for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

When reached by NBC News, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone said the hotel arrangements were likely made long before the plane disappeared. He went on to say "I feel terribly, terribly sorry for these people but it is up to the hotel. What would happen if you told somebody that they no longer had a booking? You would get sued, I’d imagine.”

These hotel rooms are booked, weeks/months in advance.. So Ferrari isn't to blame for it..

Well, NBC seems to think it is.

Because it shows just how awful F1 is at public relations. I don't know what Ferrari could have done, but Bernie's comment comes across as callous. He says he's oh so sorry, but then immediately equates Ferrari's reservation to the grief of the families. And he makes no hint that he's working to do something about it. He's supposed to be better at this.

In two minutes, I can come up with this...

"The decision to move the families was made by the hotel, and we were only just made aware of it. We're working now with the hotel and Ferrari to find the proper solution, but rest assured that we will make sure that the families have a place to stay, regardless the cost."

Their relatives aren't going to be found any quicker by staying in this hotel.. i know how horrible this sounds, but it is the truth.

If you are not in public relations, you certainly SHOULD be. Brilliant, sir! =D>

Maybe the hotel had the responsibility to sort this out. They could have a) asked Ferrari to move somewhere else (b) found alternative accommodation for the relatives (c) found alternative accommodation for the F1 team.

It's their core business.

It's pobable Ferrari didn't even know what happened untill after thet where in the rooms. It's hote's business, not guet's.

If approached, would you give your room away?

In this circumstance, absolutely yes.

The correct response is "sorry but your relative/friend/colleague is dead so just go home and grieve".

They're all dead and life goes on for the other 7 billion people on the planet. Harsh? Sure. But it's the truth of the situation.

It is the airline's responsibility to find lodging for their pasengers. To ask Ferrari find alternative in 2 weeks is impossible.

You are landing there, with your wife and kid, you would really do that?
