What exactly does an engine customer team receive?

Post

For teams like Red Bull Toro Rosso and Williams who do not build their own engines, what exactly do they receive from the engine manufacturer? Is guaranteed to be on par with what is in the manufacturer's car engine?

Do you get just the base engine? Have fun, tell us if it blows up?

Are the various components the same as the manufacturers team (pistons, valves, lifters, etc etc)?

Do you get the transmission?

Do you get any electronics or help with the electronics?

Do you get Kers? Or is that sourced separately? Brakes?

Sorry if my search skills are not up to snuff and this was answered before.

There is no unified answer. The three engine suppliers supply different packages. With Ferrari you'll get the whole PU package with the inter cooler but not the exhoughst (and you can lease the transmission separate), with Mercedes you won't get the inter cooler but you do get the exhoughst pipes and more tech support (according to Lotus and Williams), same goes for the transmissions, you can build your own (at least Williams builds their own, don't know about Lotus. FI used to run a McLaren but now a Mercedes GB). With Renault it's a bit different because nowadays they only supply to the RedBull teams, they build their own gearbox and intercooling systems.

A PU always comes with the engine electronics and batteries, teams make their own brake by wire systems (that's what Manor kept them from running at the first GP, at least that was their official statement). Most of the electronics come from McLaren, at least regulated stuff like the ECU and the dash.

One thing is for sure: you don't get to lay your filthy hands on their stuff. You don't even start the engine. It comes with a team to handle it.
