That's not entirely true. Even if Spanish GP has a similar, abysmal overtaking average, it's slightly better. Anyway, both tracks are essentially a parade, so the proposal would give 20 points to a qualy, as I see it.

This graph (which I updated today) includes all races from January 1997 to December 2006. According to Brian Lawrence,
For the purposes of this analysis, I only count what I will call "genuine"
passing manoeuvres, which means that I exclude:

a) any place changes made during pit stops
b) all lapping/unlapping manoeuvres
c) any changes during the first lap
ds.raikonnen seems to imply that if you give more points you would get more overtakings, as if this depended on the lack of incentives for drivers. I don't think so. In my humble opinion, the teams and the drivers do as many overtakes as they can: giving 1.000.000 points to first place wouldn't change the laws of physics. :)

As for the "uniqueness" of Monaco, well... besides Stefania kiss, I don't see what's unique in that lousy track, whose only pretext is its longevity, a lot of advertising, the public going nuts over royalty and the fact that every driver hates the layout.

Technically speaking :), I could do a better layout on my living room. They could gamble the points at Monaco's Casino, giving handicaps according to previous cars qualifications and things wouldn't change much. In short, Monaco is only for royalists... republicans hate it.
If I come visit ya..and we collaborate on the new layout..can we use my legos to show how the layout would look like lol
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Well, m3_lover, where are we going to find twisted enough lego pieces for Rascasse? :)

Not happy winning the WDC? I guess that real racer don't understand the meaning of it... ;)

Surely, this real racer modbaran mentions is not a Jenson "I-will-win" Button fan.

Now, as I see it, if a black guy from Trinidad wins the championship, some people despise him because, as a rookie, he hasnt' won any races. Better yet, why don't we change the scoring system?

How fair.

If someone ever did win the WDC without ever scoring any race wins, then it isn't their fault. Blame the points system.

Nah - can't agree MC - sorry :(

Where do you go after double points at Monaco? Rate all the circuits so you get x1.5 @ (say) Barcelona etc.? Do you base the measure on overtaking stats - or a subjective view about track difficulty?

I think normal points for a win is enough...........

Usually the cream rise to the very top at Monaco - everyone knows that; so a Monaco win gets you RESPECT.........you can't buy that ;)

'Respect' sounds like they re street racing or something...not for F1 drivers RH

Well, Ciro, I'm a republican and I love Monaco... come on, what about its "mystique"? The walls resounding the echoes of Rindt's victory - and Brabham's defeat - in 1970 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpVYEGaCqjQ)? How can you ignore the technical demand of a GP that, between 1984 and 1993 was only won by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna? How can you be cold regarding the fact that some of the most dramatic GP's in F1 history were held there? Don't you remember Panis in 1996?

I've got mixed feelings concerning the Monaco GP: I believe some of the best and some of the most boring GP's were held there. But, when they are good, they are historically good. Imagine if Hamilton gets his first win in Monaco...
That's why I believe I'll be in the Principauté in 2 weeks time: to try to see an historic GP first hand. If it's one of the boring ones: at least I won't be sleeping in front of the TV (metaforically speaking: I never fell asleep seeing a GP, and I see them since I was 5...)

my nickname is lacking a (vital) syllable there  That changes the meaning A LOT

PS: mentioning the real racer I meant the Canadian guy from DaveKillens' avatar

Boring, processional?? It has the best "dressed" fans too! Imagine how difficult it must be for drivers to maintain concentration. All those fences and behind them...
