My F1 comparison videos

Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.

I'm very pedantic and obsessed with comparing one racing car against another and the fruit of this has been a few videos I've uploaded on to youtube. They generally consist of one F1 car versus another or an F1 car versus some of discipline.

A few examples:

2007 versus 2004 pole times

4-way Monza qualifying comparison

F1 vs Champ Car vs MotoGP vs Ferrari 355 @ Laguna

F1 versus MotoGP @ Sepang

There are others up there. Have a look and if you have any suggestions on what to do next (I'm all out of ideas) I'd be glad to hear them :D

Cool videos, the 04 vs 07 is relevant, you can see that the 04 cars almost turn faster everywhere and accelerate hell faster.
It was also obvious how the driving style changed.

Myabe a 04/06 would be interesting, and maybe you could time the sectors?

That would be great.

On the laguna seca is there any DP01 onboard? in the actual video the toyota just took corners faster everywhere except one.

I'm very tired so I wont do any more tonight but thanks for the suggestions -- I'll see what I can do.

A few more I've done recently:

2003 V10 vs 2006 V8 @ Hockenheim

2004 vs 2006 acceleration

2007 F1 vs 2005 DTM @ Spa

Totally awesome videos guys. Especially cool to see how much time the 2007 aero updates can make up for loss of HP in that first video comparison.

Great videos, I'd love to see an 06 to 07 comparison to see how much the loss of traction control and downforce has affected them, maybe monaco?

YOu mean 07/08?

I agree. It would be good to see, but Monaco was wet this year, so not s good comparison.

Maybe Canada? Or possibly Silverstone?

Great vids. Thank you for your time and effort!

Thank you very much, the 04 vs 06 is very informative, the 06 cars cornering were truly shining, on some parts they were even faster.
The second sector, the 06 cars suffered from less acceleration and then could not reach the optimum cornering speeds in some parts.

In flat out corners is it also obvious some racing line where shorter in 06 meaning the speed was very much drag limited.

Overall the 06 cars were really cool indeed.

For the TC/Non TC one, the difference is see is that corners exit is wider this year which seems logical. Other than that i think this year cars corner a little bit faster.

IIRC, the actual Q2 fastest time in monaco was a bit better this year than last year.

I'm really curious to see with next year cars.

In any case your videos deserve a lot for being very informative.

Yeah, the cars really were drag limited in 2006...it made watching them much less exciting compared to the V10 cars. I hope the cars next year have less drag along with the lower downforce so we see the cars on the limit of adhesion.

On that Silverstone video, Alonso was actually flat in 7th around Copse, but I didn't include the audio for it because it was narrated by him...and he's almost as boring as Kimi!

I'm right now trying to think of what else to do. I've had an idea of comparing an LMP1 car against an F1 car but finding onboard footage isn't easy for a track that F1 cars use also (i.e. Silverstone).

Final update for the day...

This should end all the debates: What's faster, a current day F1 car or a Turbo monster?

1987 F1 vs 2007 F1 @ Spa

Monaco Quali 4-way vid

Enjoy 8)

Edit: The 1990 Monaco time isn't complete...there is a portion missing from the tunnel footage and from Antony Knoghes to the finish line, altering the laptime -- the real time is 6 seconds slower than the F2008

I made two more videos today:

Super GT vs MotoGP @ Sepang

Magny Cour Qualifying 3-way comparison

The last one is relevant since it's the French Grand Prix this weekend :D

first of all, congratulations for the videos and the music! :)

do you have any comparison between cars running with slick and grooved tyres? It would be interesting to have an idea of what to expect from next season.
