Is this good for the sport? What would the sponsors think?

Its a british thing. Everytime we have a great sporting achivement they make some stamps about it.

They did this when Damon Won, and when Mansel won. So it figured they would do it when Lewis one.

Ok but let's say for instance that a Shell company mailing would use LW stamps. Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest? It would be like Sarah Palin using Obama stamps to send Christmas cards...in a way.
I think it could get Mclaren into some hot water... but time will tell. It's only speculation.
How did Williams fare with the Damon Hill stamps?

Its a Mania, and it will disappear in time.

Unfortunately, the time right now is his.

It's a great idea from both camps! Always good to celebrate a victory and British stamps, especially limited editions are a good collectors item.

Non question of the year!

Yes he should, it's a British tradition, it doesn't upset sponsors...how can it!?

And you DON'T have to use stamps with him on, the std ones are still available. And companies RARELY use stamps as they have franking machines.

It sounds like we have some stamp collectors on this thread!!
I have nothing against LW on a stamp but I generally like to stick to the generic ones.
I wonder what Mclaren would say if Lewis stuck a stamp onto his helmet for the next race?

In the interests of accuracy, Royal Mail have never previously issued stamps to honour championships: neither Mansell nor Hill had a special issue devoted to them (although the Isle of Man produced a set for Mansell, who lived there at the time). As this article from The Times points out, for many years it was Royal Mail's policy not to depict living non-Royal personages on their stamps:

The first non-Royal on a British stamp was William Shakespeare in 1964, followed by Sir Winston Churchill in 1965.

Last year, Royal Mail did issue a set commemorating both the centenary of Brooklands and the 50th anniversary of Stirling Moss' win in the British GP, but IIRC this is only the second motor sport themed set they've ever produced.

He'd finish the race several days late or just get lost on the circuit... :x (personal problem with Royal Mail at the moment)

Yes. They should be 'old school' stamps with a gummy back, not the peel-off's that we see now. The kind that you have to lick to get them to stick. Second thoughts, no. I do not like the direction that this is going in.
Williams and proud of it.

Kimi was on stamps as well? What country and was there any opposition to it?

It's all over the news, Lewis thing...

One question that keeps coming up is why a stamp for Lewis after winning only one championship? Is it because he is the youngest champion ever or are they jumping the gun a little? Maybe the Germans should honour Vettel for almost spoiling Lewis' hopes on the last few laps in Brazil?
