Oh god, another crazy FIA plan!!!

Max Mosley has revealed plans for a "world engine" that in 2013 would be capable of powering FIA categories including Formula One, World Rally Championship and Formula Two.

On a visit last weekend to the rally of Portugal he said: "It would work in turbocharged form for F1 and then all the way down to naturally aspirated form for the lesser categories and in a turbocharged or naturally aspirated form for the World Rally Championship."

OK, that is stupid.

I wont even go into the technical and politico-industrial arguments, let me just ask:

How can a man who knows nothing of motor sports be head of a motor sport organization ?

OK, I'll propose two equally sound :wtf: ideas:

A "World Transmission" -- a 7-speed with all 7 gears available for F1, 6 for F2, etc

A "World Tire" -- F1 gets to run it at 100% designed pressure, F2 at 90%, etc.

A "World Wheel" -- F1 gets to use all 5 lug nuts; F2 gets 4, etc.

A "World Monocoque" -- F1 made of carbon fiber; F2 made of aluminum, etc

FIA is so much more fun than Monty Python or Top Gear.

Wasn't this engine already made, and called the Ford DFV?

I think the one thing that everyone forgets about is that since it's OK for Max to participate in Prisoner themed sex with 5 hookers, and got away with it, tells me that he thinks he is beyond reproach.

While that was a fantastic post giblet (and well done on the research btw!) you'll notice nobody tried to use (well I don't know that, but nobody won with) a DFV or DFV derivved engine in Rallying.

This proposal by the FIA is total nonesence, and probably thought up by the same idiot that came up with that infernal CDG-Wing.

Although for lower Fourmulae, say F2, F3 etc, this concept could work. Lets say there's this:

Variety of Engines - F1
+FIA "Open Wheel" Engine - used in various guises for F2, F3 etc.
+FIA "Rally" Engine - a different engine used for Rallying in different guises for WRC, Group N etc...
+FIA "Endurace Engine" - Used for endurance races etc.

I think that could work, but I wouldn't like to see the premier catagory of each aspect of racing to have spec engines:
F1
WRC
LeMans

They should have what they have now IMO.

How about

A "World Pit Crew" -- it would encourage one-stoppers since you'd turn around at Spa and your pit crew would be on their way to Dakar. If they have any free time maybe they can dress up as fascists and service Max?

Not to nitpick, but isn't less pressure going to yield better traction, to a point?

I was thinking F1 gets an Octagonal shaped wheel, F2 gets a Hexagonal wheel, and some poor buggers in the lower serieses get square wheels.

I think he stole this idea from Audi. See last weeks or this current weeks copy of Auto Sport i think, its the one celebrating Brawn GPs maiden GP win.

Idea sounds like a good idea, but come on.

If each of the elite catogories of motorsport has a spec component for every component, i think it will lead to people think that WTC/WRCC/F1/GP2/F2/ALMS/CART/IRL/NASCAR (Delete as aproprate) is cheap to get into and run. Motorsport isnt that easy and cheap to get into, as we have just seen this winter with Brawn GP. And the elite wont be so "elite" then. Can you immagine F1 with a 40 car grid??? It would be like watching a NASCAR event arround Monaco or Hungaroring as they are the shortest tracks.

Concept, good. Theory, bad.

I don't see why they can't be in on this, too...take the "world engine", saw two cylinders off it, and someone's good to go! One V8 engine will be good for 4 Moto GP bikes!

I think there might be something to this idea after all...

F1 is and has always been about the pinnacle of motorsport through development, not committee approval. Max really does want to kill F1 before something/someone kills him.
