Campos Meta 1 Situation.

I am worried that this small team may not make it, id like to see them make it, but at the same time is like to see the Stefan GP team race what would have been the Toyota TF110 (now named the S-01) in 2010.

Tony Teixeira the A1GP boss has been rumored as the posible investor in the team, but i am worried about us not seeing Bruno Senna in F1 again.

All in one day they have said they will miss testing, then reportedly been taken over and then said that they will take to the track for the last test in Barcelona. And with reports of A1GP champion Adam Caroll taking the remaining seat at Campos, makes me really wonder.

Is Stefan GP, with the Toyota RVX-10 powered S-01, with Kazuki Nakajimma as one of their drivers the better option for FOM and Bernie at this last stage. They seem to be ready and able to feild a team, even at this late stage.

Whats the views on this situation???

It is simple, FIA kicked themselves for their heads again with the requirement of using cosworth, thus leaving those 4 teams and none of them can get of the ground, none of them have good funding, apart from USF1 wich can actually do an acceptable season. The other 3 will be to laugh about, they had no time for a car, build a team and find investors.

IF cosworth wasnt a requirement we would have seen USF1, Lola, Prodrive and Epsilon in the Formula1, all teams wich didnt need any investments. But the FIA seem to want everything the ahrd way and see another plan fail with 2 teams falling out, wich will be campos at least, those guys are not gonna make it to bahrain.

I tend to aggree with you there.

Campos = Will posibly just make it, but posibly do a Super Aguri in 08, make it and then fall 4 or 5 races into the season.

USF1 = Make it, and then find when the chips are down they need more money and eventually fall just before the end of the season.

Lotus = Will make a good go of it, and will posibly be the best of the new teams.

Virgin GP = Will be good as well, but Nick Wirth will find out that a car in F1 needs at least some tunnel time to be just fast enough to stand still, whitch in F1 is going backward.

However, if the FIA (Max Mosley) had chosen either Prodrive or Lola, over Campos they would have been well on their way to having a car up to speed by now. Ad with that allowed USF1 to have Toyota power for 2010 meaning that team would have been more advanced than it currently is.

However, if any new team fails this season, and im thinking at least 2 will (Campos and posibly USF1) can a team be admitted mid season like Stefan GP??? And if a second team fails, do you think the FIA will open up a tender process again, posibly bringing Prodrive and Lola together in partnership to design and build a car that could posibly have Renault power???

Personally, i think both Stefan GP and Prodrive-Lola should be brought in if any of the new teams fail, either mid season or for 2011.

i do prefer lola though, they really developped in CFD and such techniques wich is shown in their LMP's those cars are developped fast for prototype racing standards, Lola can easily be competitive with others with the resources they have now.

What the F1 needs right now is more diversity, now evetryone has to turn to cosworths, it would be way better if they got space to make a rotary engine for example, or FSI, it would attrackt manufacturers. Im well sure Audi would then immediately take the jump to F1, they shown their skills in Prototypes, Rally, touring cars, next is single seaters to show it, it is a new challenge for audi wich they dare to take i think.

If the FIA had not pushed new entrants we would possibly be looking at a 9 team grid. If we gain two more teams that is a success in itself. But the jury is still out and there can easily be a 13 team grid in Bahrain.

USF1 will be an asset due to their fan friendly openness. I really hope we will not loose the team. They have done better than their many detractors have told us thus far.

The Campos situation is a bit diffuse. If they pick up an investor like Teixeira it may all work out. If they get screwed by Ecclestone their grid slot may go to the Serbs. Personally I have a creepy feeling to see armament money that participated in the Bosnian war enter F1. The Serbian genozid of which the Srebrenica and Markale massacres were just tips of the ice berg was too terrible to forget it in five years. If the money came from Serbian tourist industry or agriculture I had no objection but the armament industry is just too odorous.

One way id do this is by limiting engine supplyers to only 2 or 3 teams, cosworth would have to drop one team at least. But id try like hell to bring VW with their Audi brand to F1 and then try and get Toyota to come back, but in a engine and transmission only format. Id like to see either 15 teams with 5 engine supplyers or 14 teams with 7 engine supplyers.

But leave that for another thread and topic.

F1 needs to be a fast, dynamic, economically affordable sport that stops short of being a spec formula. There are many things that need sorted, and i think this is only the start.

But the new teams and their situation either technically or financially needs to be sorted out ASAP, or we could be running with 20 or 22 cars again, soon.

There is an official position by VW that they will not consider a team in F1. They may consider supplying engines but they will not do chassis and run a team.

Yes because any new team with a Honda or a Toyota or a BMW in the back of it would have had a much better chance at getting to the grid.

There was no requirement for Cosworth, only a requirement that they have an engine lease paid for when they put in their application, Cosworth was the only engine supplier capable of doing so.

Who was Prodrive going to use? How about Lola? Merc was already at the limit with 2 customer teams, Renault was on the brink of explusion and have just recently sold the team. Toyota & BMW had 1 foot out of the door. Cosworth(and having an indepent engine supplier) was the logical choice... but then again when is using logic ever a good idea in F1 or around here.

Any new team in F1 is bound to have problems in these tough economic times, as are established ones... Williams have burned through all their resources, SAR is Gone, Midland sold off, same with Spyker... is it because of Cosworth?

Manor and Campos didnt need to have the resources that Lola or Prodive did, because someone else(Wirth & Dallara respectively) was designing & building their cars for them. And what is so great about Prodrive? I dont seem to see them in WRC anymore, what makes you think they were a lock to succeed in F1? They won a seat in 2006 for F1, but decided to decline because constructing a car would have been "prohibitively expensive", what has changed since then? And we all remember Lola's last time in F1, a complete joke, almost as big a joke as N technologies.

Renault F1, in partnership with Boeing.. makers of tanks & air fighters supplied to the US Govt (invaded Vietnam/Afghanistan/Iraq) & Russia (who still today occupy sovereign Georgian land)

McLaren working with BAE Systems.. a company involved in the F-35, Eurofighter, Tanks, Aircraft carriers, submarines, munitions including cluster bombs still peppering much of Northern Africa, Afghanistan, Former Yugoslav States etc..

Force India works with Airbus.. a company even today looking to expand its military presence.

Williams in partnership with Qinetiq.. builders of warships, jet fighters, UAV's..

Ferrari works with Moog.. a major player in the military flight & missile industries..

There is a proliferation of new team threads. They all end up being a general chat about all the teams. Well, apart from the USF1 thread which seems to be back on topic, having weaned itself off toasters.

I wonder if the esteemed mods feel energetic enough to merge all the new team threads into one "New team ying yang" thread? ... except USF1 which has an independent life of its own

Campos apparently have a crash tested car, but it looks as if they won't be able to sustain themselves should they turn up to start the season. I don't think they have a chance of staying really.

Virgin are going to find it tough with that whole CFD only approach, but they might just have the backing and expertise to get a foothold in the sport after a difficult first year.

Lotus have Mike Gasgoyne designing for them, a car that has apparently passed crash testing and some reasonable backing. It's going to be tough for them to get a foothold in the sport but they might well survive.

US F1 apparently haven't crash tested any car of any description - no matter how hard I look or how many times I ask. They also haven't built a complete car as far as I can see, which would explain the lack of crash testing. If they turn up for Bahrain by some miracle then they'll be well off the pace, might well linger for a few months and then die off.
