2010 Championship with 2009 Points System

I have just done a quick calculation and strangely enough the 2010 WDC with the 2009 WDC Points System would actually remain unchanged at the top:

1. LH - 44 Points
2. JB - 43 Points
3. MW - 40 Points
4. FA - 38 Points
5. SV - 37 Points

I actually thought it would be alot different but their ya go!

Not surprising! apart from points for ninth and tenth, the points ratio is the same as before. Multiply the old points table by 2.5, and you will see!

So why they bother to change the system?

Because Bernie wanted to get some press, so he came up with his medal system, and to get his medal system, he proclaimed that the current points system is broken, and the teams, not wanting Bernie's medal system, but being wusses, and also wanting some press, said "he's right, it's broken, but we can fix it", so they stuck their heads up their asses and spotted this system, which is exactly like the old system, but bigger and, most importantly, different from Bernie's, which was sure to get press for both Bernie and the teams. And Bernie saw the press that was made and, behold, it was very good.

The main reason for changing was to increase the number of cars awarded points in line with the expanded grid. It used to be the top 8 for 20 on the grid , it is now the top 10 for 24 on the grid.

You couldn't give the last place 0.4 of a point, so they boosted everything by 25 to give some whole numbers. The distribution to each place is near enough the same, expect an extra point between 1st and 2nd.

The main impact on the WDC will be when a WDC contender has a prang and limps home in 9th or 1oth to rescue 1 or 2 valuable points. Or in a close finish teh direver with more wins can creep ahead. Of course, if the WDc contender has the extra win point in one race, while the other contender limped home in 9 or 10th, then we'll be in the same position as before
