Lap times at Spa & evolution of F1....

I find this absolutely amazing....

Last years qualifying time set by Mark Webber in an RB6 was 1m 45.778s

19 years prior, you have Senna doing this in an MP4/6

Were there any major changes to the track during that time period?

The only change I can think of is to the bus stop chicane at the end of the lap, i'll have a look though more in detail.

But still, full manual gearbox & traffic in his way, posts a time that's within 2 seconds of last year's qualifying time !

The bus stop is at least 2 seconds slower nowadays I reckon. What I find incredible is not so much the late great Senna's time but how fast F1 has got since then. Even with all the reg are that are constantly reformed to slow the cars down, they just keep getting faster!

You can see the shift though, it's gone from mechanical grip coupled with raw engine power to aerodynamic efficiency & dependancy.

Amazing is all the traffic he has during his lap.
Among them are some really slow cars one even put alot of dirt on track.
Did he whine at all about this?
