Edit:
Top speed is dictated by the point where total engine power = total drag (if a very long straight allows to reach that speed).
Power is more or less independent from speed, while drag increases with the square or the cube of speed, depending of which drag component you look at.
So in top speed terms, a 2-3% reduction in drag (which gets squared or cubed) is equivalent to a 10% increase in power.

And from there on all my calculations went wrong. Removed.
Apparently I am too sloppy or something to correctly follow formulas anymore or to do decent result sanity checks.
Thanks Blanchimont for the sanity check and correct calculations below.

Andy Green's (from FI) comments are here:

http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... &start=150

Translation said 10-15 kph faster this year. I presume he probably means 15 is the most and that'll probably be in Monza, but he could be just giving a rough estimate meaning Monza would probably see an even bigger swing.

Again, I have no idea where I read the 400 kph number, probably just some rubbish that someone wrote on this forum somewhere and it stuck in my brain. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen exactly what these engines can do, so who knows.

Probably the same place claiming that the Mercedes engine has 100 hp more than the others.

If

Power_2013 = Power_2014

then

density/2 * cd_2013 * Area_2013 * v_2013^3 = density/2 * cd_2014 * Area_2014 * v_2014^3

if Area_2013 = Area_2014 and cd_2014 = cd_2013*(1-x) where x is the reduction of drag in %

then

v_2013^3 = (1-x) * v_2014^3

v_2014 = v_2013 / (1-x)^1/3

if x = 10%

v_2014 = v_2013 * 1,0357

v_2014_Monza = 340km/h * 1,0357 = 352,1km/h
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

Looks entirely sane, 10% drag reduction does not sound unreasonable.

These engines should be good for more than a 1000 hp without the fuel restrictor which means they could hit 400 kph at Monza.

Pure speculation, the 1000hp you pick out of thin air is "outside design parameters". So we have no idea whether that is possible or whether the engine, gearbox or turbo would explode. And probably not even the teams know this...

But my prediction is that they would not reach 1000hp by just allowing more fuel, because everything is designed with the fuel-flow limit in mind.

I think the 600hp mark is unreal...in qualifying i believe these engines will produce 750-800 hp at ease+ERS+reduced drag= 360-370kph in Monza....my speculation of course.

Getting 800 hp from the ICU would require an impossible improvement in the efficiency percentage of the ICU, because it would have to be done within the fuel-flow limit. If you take a look at the 2014 engines thread, there are quite a few calculations there sketching how it would be impossible to have "100hp more then others" as was said about Mercedes, let alone 200hp more then the expected number.

And without gravity we could all hover around. What's your point?

How would you reach 750-800 hp on the combustion engine alone?? Speculation is worthless without any sort of theory to back it up.

That seems like an overkill. V10 record is 369 during race weekend and that cars had more power for more time and were much lighter.

I just can not believe that combined both engine and the electric motor produce only 750...i believe by the time of Monza they will equal the old V10 units...allready and not pussing 100% Ferrari toped 336+in Bahrain...for Monza they will definetly bring a special aero+the reduced drag i believe we will see a new record.
