I suspect that tight packaging, hot engines and insufficient cooling of not only the engine, but the engine bay are the biggest contributors to supercar fires.

Also, because it comes from Italy ;) Beautiful and fast but not very reliable ;)
Ah of course as it's from Italy...Toyota being ultra reliable Japanese never had the biggest recall in automotive history with sticking throttles or the British. The British have no major car companies of their own as they produced the most unreliable cars in history. British Leyland a stain on the myth of British engineering. All other British brands are foreign owned and better for it. TVR anyone?. Porsche engines have a small bearing issue on 996 engines and Boxster engines. Please do not bring nationality into it. If you have to at least go after the biggest reliability culprits The Beitish. Theres a reason they have nothing of their own left.
Sorry cannot let this run.
Of course all nations building cars have had reliability issues and recalls and the British motor industry suffered a large number, mainly from union created bad practice and the inability of government to run car companies.
Italy has had many similar problems over the years.
Ferrari however has had fire problems with its cars both road and race throughout its history.
It is not an easy problem to fully solve but you would have thought they would have come close by now.
One problem IMO is the power train concept in Le Ferrari which reminds me of a horizontal block of flats crammed into a very small space, a fire waiting to happen.
Its only reported something needs to be dine to the fuel tank at 1st service. Only 458 had a design issue that caused a fire McLarens have also just gone up in flames. An F1 in California a few years ago and a 12C in June 2013 in London. It can happen to any of them. Probably a few Audis go up in flames every year but not really news as theres so many of them.

How does this post make any sense at all? You're upset someone made a joke at Italian reliability, you cry about how you shouldn't bring in nationality and then suggest we hang --- on the British. If you're going to be a delicate flower, can you at least cut out the hypocrisy?

Just pointing out how crazy it is to compare reliability with nationality. The issue in this thread has happened to manufacturers from many countries. The British like any nation has a history of great cars and unreliable ones. Ignorant statements on national stereotypes are annoying, this was a case of fighting fire with fire (pun intended). I hope you can agree on this.

British car unreliability is somewhat a myth. They really were no worse than most of the competition in the 70s and 80s, when all cars were bad. In the 90s/00s Rover/MG or whatever it was called at various times had no recalls at all. I had several of their cars with no problems. The Rover 75 was in the top 10 in the JD power survey for a number of years (yeah OK it was basically a BMW), despite the massively overplayed and hyped K Series engine head gasket 'problem'. The company also beat BMW and was one place behind VW in the Driver Power survey in the last year it was listed and regularly beat all the French and Italians.

Public perception and media driven image rarely match reality.

I think one of the biggest issues with the K-Series gasket problem is that a vast amount of Rover garages refused to acknowledge there was a problem, despite them manufacturing a new (thicker) gasket for future models.

Then they should use some electric fans too cool off the engine bay area.
In road cars there are no active-aerodynamics rule so they can use as many fans as they want.
Sure it may be considered politically incorrect to have a fuel-wasting and polluting 1/4 to 1/2 hp cooling fan on all the time. Or they can turn it on only once engine area reaches a certain temp.

LOL @ Italian beautiful yet unreliable comments!
Reminds me of Top Gear comments on Alfa Romeo and Lancia
