The Cosworth CA2013K that was in the MR02 was respectable, but not completely at the F1 cutting edge. The engine was 12kg heavier than the next heaviest in the Ferrari, but the 056/Mercedes FO108x/Renault RS27-20xx were all within half a kilo or so of each other at the 95Kg weight limit for an engine. The Cosworth was slightly more thirsty, it required .130 to .170 of a kilo of fuel per lap, which is about 25kg more over a race distance there. The Cosworth was there or there a bouts in power output, but it was down by 15hp, not much, but so far it is about 0.4 of a second down on the manufacturer units. The last thing is that the Cosworth engine was slightly less drivable, but that is a subjective term. The Cosworth has plus points as well, the engine was easier to work on and install, it was also easier to cool and had a good torque band.

The Cosworth was a good power unit, but if Marussia had a Renault, Mercedes or Ferrari unit yes they would have been able to beat Caterham lots more, but the chassis is what Marussia needs to focus on, there is more time to be found there, however any one saying that the Marussia chassis is a dud for manufacturing reasons are on cloud coo coo, as the Marussia chassis are manufactured in the same place as Force India's at EPM Technology. Marussia just need to focus on more refined Aero development and better quality upgrades not quantity. As long as Marussia chip away at the incremental gains they will be in good shape this year.

The Cosworth was on the 95kg limit. All engines easily made it. Some engines built ancillaries into the block to get up to the weight limit.

Marussia Misses 1st test

Marussia are looking set to delay the launch and miss the first pre-season test at Jerez after a fault with their 2014 car.

According to a British source, this was due to a 'last-minute' technical glitch, which has halted their progress in getting the MR03 prepared and transported to the track in time for the first test which commences tomorrow.

It is understood that the British-based team preferred to address the issue back at the factory in Banbury where their resources are readily available.

The Russian-owned squad are aiming to have the problem resolved by mid-week and hope to take part in the final day of the Jerez test on Friday. However, should they fail to rectify the problem, they, along with Lotus will be the only two teams to have missed the first test.

Marussia are changing from Cosworth to Ferrari power this season, using their new 059/3 Power Unit to comply with the 1.6 litre V6 turbocharged regulation that has come into place for 2014.

They will retain the same driver line-up of Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton for the season ahead.
sure. i don't believe it one bit. from all the teams, we have seen evidence of progress but marussia except from some twitter statements. I guess Lotus won't be the sole one as they have stated before after all.

a 'small' technical issue can't make you drive the 1st test in jerez? why am i finding this hard to believe?

Its not rly hard to believe, same as Caterhams car has never been in one full piece until todaym they have been working in shifts to get it ready.
