Red Bull RB11 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The smoke coming from Ric's engine as it was sat by the barrier showed how effective the monkey seat is at directing the airflow upwards - wind speed was something like 15km/h, I think, and the flow was climbing at >60deg from the views we got.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

That smoke is hot so it rises.

C.Horner said on the BBC live coverage that they had taken the blown axles off the car ,as they cause a lot of drag ...
So I assume at Hungary its not so much of an issue...but I doubt if they'll stay on the car for Spa and Monza.

Is there an additional step? Or do my eyes playing tricks to me?

Watch the way it moves in that area at speed and with only the low speed wind when the car is sat on the grass. It flows as a directed plume following the general stream, not as a simple buoyant plume.

Still unmentioned: RB has now also the Merc/Ferrari-like campod mounting on the nose

Well spotted. Was this new for today as all previous pictures show the old mounting position?

No, already tested yesterday on RIC's car (today on both cars)

Here is one with a better resolution:

Strange that Ricciardo says here: http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/ ... in-hungary on Friday that RB via Renault have:

"a little bit more power at our disposal, and a bit through the fuel as well, which is nice because every little helps. It felt good to lean on it a bit."

So why whenever Christian Horner has been interviewed this weekend he has denied that Renault have made any improvements this weekend and says it's entirely down to the car. Of course they are much better at Hungary due to this but if Ricciardo is indeed correct then it's just another case of them giving Renault no credit.

I think now, Redbull with a good engine would match Mercedes.
