Mercedes AMG F1 W07

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Engine cover looks the same as before

Sorry i didn't find same side of the car, but take as reference the last letters: "as" in petronAS and "pe" PEtronas again, they seem simmetrically in (vertical) line with the black square/engine cover small opening.

China photo, quite sure is from a thursday session too, new tyres, neat car, tools on the back...what may be illusioning is the lack of engine pipes

Btw, Hamilton with new (also in design) MGU-H
Rosberg 2nd engine and MGU-K (motorsport.it)

The refinement of this car, is from a position of supremacy. There is NO expectation of following another car. From the rear brake ducts forward, floor, turning vanes, and fw.. Obsessive minutia, its brilliant. I feel like other teams cant be as adventurous even RBR... That monkey seat looks like it was designed for a different car though (i know it wasnt) but aesthetically just 'feels' misshapen.

Some of the journalists can be a race or two late in terms of noticing technical updates. :)

How funny would it be if someone said "Nico what are you doing to Lewis's car?" right as Lewis walked into the garage!

The New Nose Tip looks good. Finally the narrower FW Pylons of the W07 look like they have been designed with the Nose. Looked a bit weird before. https://twitter.com/ScarbsTech/status/7 ... 4793797632 Image

El detalle de la pasada de frenada de Hamilton es ver cómo el ala delantera desvía todo el humo de la rueda.

The film of the lock up was impressive - one could see how the flow from the front wing and turning vanes kept the smoke below the level of the radiator entry. The air coming off the tyre was being directed in to the sidepod undercut. This shows how the design makes sure that the leading edge of the underfloor is fed with "clean" non-tyre air.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

At the risk of starting a war in the wrong thread... this is IN the car and can be touched, as Rosberg proved

Please everyone, no discussion of the incident here (see all of Turbo's guiding posts, including post #1 in this thread), race incidents go in the race thread, this is just to highlight how the relevant settings are handled in the car.

One would say, shouldn't F1 not become more simplified? This looks like a female remote control (no female offense). One shouldn't be turning switches and pressing buttons at +160 mph mid corner I think. General road safety warn us about texting and driving. I don't see what the difference this is. Collision on Sunday was controversial in some perspective, but imo it could have gone far worse if wheels have collided. I don't want to think what the consequences were going to be if that happened. These things shouldn't have happened.

Looking at the steering wheel above, I really can't figure out how drivers these days can manage to find the right button/switches under pressure. When we saw Rosberg making the changes on his steering wheel, after changing his STRAT switch to 3 he was trying to find his overtake button on the steering wheel roaming from N button to BB-1 button and eventually finding that OT button, which was the overtake button.

I think this is a general issue in which every driver can be in this kind of situation and unnecessary risk would be created because of that. Not going to start another Lewis-Nico debate mind you!

After the spa incident in 2014 hamilton was advised on the radio to switch to strat 12 while he limped to the pits with a puncture. Obviously a setting with severely less power than the balls out first lap attack. -160 bhp from the clipping mgu-k and probably some more from the de-rated ICE. Hamilton said in was something like 180 bhp overall.

Launch was OK most likely because of RS modes overriding any STRAT switch positioning up to turn 1.
