How the hell do Schumacher create that gap, I know mika's car was failing towards the end but Schumacher did loads of quailifing laps after another. But wasnt the mclaren fastest package at that point plus they started 1st and 2nd with schumacher in 3rd 0.5 second behind, He even did extra stop.

Schumacher did switch to a 3 stop strategy, which was brilliant and masterful. Just one more example of the amazing and competent people Schumacher had surrounded himself with. At the end of the race Hakkinen had gearbox problems, which eventually relegated him to 6th.

But agreed, Schumacher laid down some amazing laps. But that's one of his strong points, the ability to lay down qualifying laps, lap after lap, when asked to.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

I love these threads, but shouldn't they be under the "Formula 1 Races" catergory?

Maybe titled "Historic F1:Hungary 1998"

I think it could become a great trend of discussion for historic races!

mclaren responded to the 2nd schuey pitstop by bringing their drivers in early to retain track position (which failed because they entered the track just behind), this was a bad move and i think they were scared by schumachers pace and werent sure he was on a 3 stopper

so they pitted and came out behind on race ending fuel, schumacher pulled the gap out because he had a 20 lap fuel advantage

i wonder if he could have won it if mclaren didnt overreact to what schumacher was doing

of course this is a favourite race of mine as a schumacher fan

what a fantastic race that was! =D>
20 Quly laps in a row to win a race, which he had no business to be even in Top 3 with that tank Ferrari drought to Hungary.
Only Schumacher could do that......Brawn tried that strategy with his current drivers 4 times this season and failed miserably
