are McLaren-Mercedes and Mercedes works teams using AMG-Mercedes engines, my mate seems to think they are not because they are v8's and they don';t have a V8 AMG engine for there road cars, I am sure they are but need proof

They all come from Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, which means they're basically just re-branded products of Ilmor.

Nah, F1 engibes operate at wide open throtel and high revs most of the time and have diferant performance rekuirements.

Same way the Toyota team was more German than Japanese, and the same team was more British than Japanese as the engines were produced in Brackley as well. The Honda engine hall is now the Mercedes simulator seemingly. HRT the last two years were more German than Spanish.

99% of the models in the AMG lineup are v8's and the ones that aren't are v12's.

99% of the models in the AMG lineup are v8's and the ones that aren't are v12's.

Pretty soon there will be an I4 as well though.

Judging by the OP's IP location and the time of the post, I'd say this was a pub conversation. They'd probably been arguing about it for a good hour in the pub, then the OP posted the question when he got home after closing time.

FYI "Closing time" is a quaint English & Welsh tradition whereby all the pubs close at the exactly the same time to ensure crowds of drunken people simultaneously surge onto the streets in search of a kebab and a taxi. This inevitably results in fights. It's actually a secret method for boosting overtime payments for the police and NHS staff, I think Americans call it "socialism".

However socialists think it a deliberate policy by the ruling classes to repress the working classes. Friday nights leave them too hung over (or injured) to start a revolution. They then have to work all week to avoid a scolding from 'er indoors (and to pay for the drink bill).

Meanwhile the Scots don't have a closing time - they drink all day to drown the misery of subservience to the Sassenachs since 1707.
