DFV block height

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Hi everyone, would anyone be able to tell me the block height for the first series cosworth DFV engine and maybe the rod length as well, thanks

Welcome to the forum kal. Sounds like your doing a rebuild. I'd recommend factory sources for information.

A few years back my dentist had a 1969 DFV block covered with a glass sheet as a living room coffee table, probably been replaced now he is a Ferrari enthusiast. It's a sensitive subject, argue with him and he holds back on the Novocaine, very painful [-X

Hi Carlos, thanks for the info.Yes i'm in the process of doing a build.I wish it was a DFV i was building but actually it's a BDA.
I'm using the cosworth DFV pistons part number DA1964 to build a BDE spec engine.
Only problem is they protrude out from the block face by about 2mm.
Accralite list these pistons with 37.3mm compression height which would put them flush with the block face, but the cosworth ones seem to be 39.3m compression height.
I assumed they would be the same as the accralite equivalent so didn't ask when i ordered them #-o .
Now i have pistons 2mm too tall, i don't fancy machining the tops as i'd like to keep the strength in the crown...
Anyway i thought i'd ask here as i'm trying to ascertain which DFV pistons i actually have and why the accralite equivalent are 2mm lower in comp. height :?
I'll get in touch with cosworth but that will be after the holidays now

kal it's very possible the deck height was machined. Projects should start with research, in the case of an engine rebuild, accurate measurements, which means specification sheets and a substantial investment in precision tools. Here are some helpful calculators.
