However the hard work of these two loyal sponsors was undone by the intransigence of Huub Rothengatter, manager of Jos Verstappen, who at all time insisted on taking an exorbitant commission on sponsorship introduced to the team or an outrageous wage.
This column is taken from the F1Racing.net website, what is the meaning of "exorbitant commission on sponsorship introduced to the team or an outrageous wage"? poor Verstappen, couldn't have got the last vacant seat in F1. Jordan could have 2 major sponsors too. So if it was't for Jos' manager, both parties is a winner.

"exorbitant commission on sponsorship introduced to the team or an outrageous wage" means:

- technicaly Jos wasn't going to pay for his seat he was going to be payed to race for Jordan....the the commission is....is a percentage of all sponsors that Jos brought to the team would revert to his manager....and if not he would be payed a wage to get those sponsors.

Most drivers that we call "pay drivers" in fact are not really pay drivers....they're payed very little but all of their sponsors go directly to the team and not to the driver.... (there was an article about this a few years back in F1 Racing mag)....this was the case Jordan contracted Jos and received all of the money from his personal sponsors....
