Picture of grounding (earthing) strip in pit lane

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Picture of grounding (earthing) strip in pit lane

Post

I am looking for a good picture of the grounding strip that most (all) teams use while re-fueling their cars in the pits. I understand the pupose of this strip is to discharge the static energy that is generated while is passing through the air. If anyone can point me to a good pic, or post a good picture it would be most apprciated.

Thanks

That is better than I have found so far, I am really looking for a good overhead shot...I have one from the Singapore Ferrari incident, but it is less than ideal aswell.

Thanks for the help, keep em' comming please.

I thought those were there for timing purposes. Or is that done by something else?

I have heard both functions, one for timing pitstops, and two for grounding the car during refueling, It wouldn't surprise me if it did both.

The copper tape strips are there purely for grounding reasons, if you can find a picture looking into a garage just before a pit stop you should be able to see the earthing strips and the fuel rig connected together, possibly by a common ground.
This system is to put the rig and car on a common ground plane to prevent static discharging through the refuelling nozzle.

FIA Technical Regulation 6.5.3 states :
Before refuelling commences, the car connector must be connected electrically to earth.
All metal parts of the refuelling system from the coupling to the supply tank must also be connected to
earth.

If there is a contact based system for measuring pitstop time it will be separate from this.
