DTM, GT1, and "stock"/touring cars

Post

Hey folks; just wondering. I was arguing with my friend about this one and neither of us could make any ground on the other. Which one is faster? DTM or GT1? I was thinking maybe GT1 would be faster in the straights because of their engine power, but DTM would be faster in corners because mechanically, and aerodynamically, they're actually quite good.

Which such series, either touring or "stock" car, is actually the quickest series?

Have you bothered to check lap times at each circuit for each respective series?

Yes I did. Unfortunately they don't have any common circuits in 2011; so direct comparison isn't really possible for their 2011-spec cars.

I am pretty sure GT1 is the faster one of the two. GT1 cars have higher power to weight ratio and have less drag, so they would be faster than a DTM car in terms of top speed.

I think the GT1 cars maybe faster in corners also. They most probably have lower centre of gravity than those silhoutte DTM cars. The DTM cars have their dimensions based on the Audi A4 and Mercedes C Class.

Yes; but if it's quicker by enough in the corners, that top speed deficit won't count for much

Oschersleben 2009 - DTM vs GT1

DTM Pole - Tom Kristensen - 1.21.352 - Audi
GT1 Pole - Alex Müller - 1:24.546 - Maserati

SuperGT GT500>DTM>GT1 in terms of speed.
