GP3 dramatic accident...disgraceful double blocking

Isn't the whole point of having the one defensive move to prevent accidents like this? as well as the fact the fellow in the Marussia GP3 entry is missing a rear wing which is against the rules of the FIA?

Something needs to be done...we don't need another single seater death...not after all the effort to make the cars even safer.

Yeah, I thought it disgraceful as well. What did the Maurissa driver think he was going to achieve? Win the race without a rear wing by weaving all over the track for the rest of the afternoon?

Have the FIA given any punishment for this?

Just found on autosport that they excluded the driver from the results - another non-punishment.

That was a very dangerous situation but not so much for the driver but for the spectators and marshals standing close to that fence. In Monaco the protection arround the track can't be that safe than on other tracks so it was very lucky that nobody got injured. I wonder where that tire was flying to?

Most likely in the water...I don't believe there is a road/walkway there...due to the velocity it must of fell in the water...

What I find strange is why was he able to continue to driver without his backwing. Shouldn't he be black flagged for that or is this a non mandatory part of the vehicle?

He was black flagged, and his punishment was for ignoring that rather than for his driving.

The issue is that the overtaking car went to go one way, was blocked, went to go the other way, was blocked, and then ran into the back of him trying to move back the other way as they ran out of space into the braking zone. The blockee was also having to brake a lot earlier due to the missing rear wing. Dangerous driving to move around like that and it ended up in an incident that launched a car into the barrier. Having reflected on it though disqualification from the event was probably severe enough a penalty, even though that was for another offense.

The man's race was over, because he lost his rear wing. He had to retire. So, there was absolutely no reason in the world for his futile and dangerous tactics.

But the lack of wing was clearly not slowing him up much- he was holding Daly up hugely before Daly knocked off the wing by just running into the back of him at the exit of the hairpin. He didn't become appreciably slower when he lost the wing. GP3 is not aero-dependant at all; jsut look at how skinny the wing is anyway.
Daly was an idiot as well.
But really the cause of this was the track- it would never have happened anywhere else, as Suranovich would have been passed before the wing was even broken.
Get rid of Monaco. It is awful in every way- not a single overtake in 4 races! 5 if you cound the F1; the only passes I saw were on a broken Schumacher...

Oh god please, you know what you're saying?

First of, Monaco is a classic on the calender and everyone enjoys it. Except of course the newbies who think that a race is only interresting when there is a lot of overtaking. Well, I have news for you, it is not, lots of overtaking in F1 for example, it has never been as dull. Racing is fights on track, rivalry on and off track and having the best car+strategy. Not only overtaking.

There is no issue, at that point of the track it is a right hand bend not a straight for which he took a standard "racing line" through the corner as he's entitled to do. Using a standard racing line as a blocking technique happens hundreds of times every race, every class, every track, every weekend.

I don't disagree with you about the guy's overall behavior (the stupidity of trying to compete with the broken wing) but he wasn't blocking illegally at any point.

Shows that one day at one of these street tracks, a car is going to go over the fence into the water. I have always looked for it and have yet to see a lifeguard-boat in those waters anywhere at any track. Future freak accident.

Actually, from what I recall from a years back, Monaco is fully prepared for such an event. And no, it's not just a "life guard boat" floating around. It's a legitimate scuba diving team that is trained for motorsport accidents.
