Blancpain GT Series

Thoroughly enjoyed this last year. Lots of great fights. Endurance races mixed with sprint races, absolutely stunning cars. The grid for Monza last year had over 60 entrants! This is a golden era for GT racing.

They have McLaren, BMW, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Nissan, Ferrari, Bentley, Porche, Audi (Boooo :P ), and Chevrolet and Ford- although not seen them this year and only noticed them a few times last year.

Their youtube site is usually pretty good. They usually have the complete reruns the day after the race which the other youtube motorsport channels should take a look at.

Curiously, I came to know about the series today for the first time. I was looking for the (old) GT1 series, which got replaced by this one. I'll definitely be following this series!

Are they still running GT1 spec cars? Or only GT3 spec?

Nah no GT1 anymore.

Here is a good article that kind of explains it. My first time reading it as well...

I've always wanted to watch these kind of cars racing but it has been hard to keep up with as the above article explains. The guy who runs the SRO Blancpain series seems pretty cool and has made it a bit more simple but still there's some stuff I don't get yet. Like do the endurance race points get mixed with the sprint race points. In the commentary they mentioned something about swapping ballast for horsepower. Seems like the cars are all pretty equally matched.

The Nissan and Bentley look massive don't they.

Really want to talk about the race but don't want to put any spoilers!

I went onto the WEC YouTube page to hopefully get a rerun of the Silverstone race, not only do I not find a rerun, they have the title of a 2 min highlight video saying who won the race!

I really think that FIA/ACO shot themselves in the foot by putting the stream behind a paywall. And not bothering to have the races on demand is something I dont understand. They're not going to make WEC much more popular like this.

I noticed the rerun was on the men and motors channel this morning so I've recorded it. Watched the start. Stands looked empty. I wouldn't have known it was on if it weren't for the few adverts mentioning Mark Webber. It looks a bit boring, but then again I've never been a fan of Audi or Porche. The old 90's Toyota TS020 was pretty cool looking though so thought I would see what Toyota were up to.

The GT3 category seems to be very healthy at the moment which is fantastic, but nevertheless I'm still a little bit bitter about the death of the GT1 class.

I do miss the DBR9 and its V12 dearly.
