Rear wing end plates and DDRS

Has anybody else noticed that some of the non-DDRS teams have endplates that look really similar to the ones used by the DDRS teams like red bull and mercedes? I've seen shots of the williams and mclaren endplates, and they definitely look like they have a wider section on them, as if there's supposed to be air flowing through. Is that what it is, or could it be that those teams just made them thicker for another reason?

maybe its for the DRS plumbing?

Nobody else? I thought this was interesting and figured some other people might have seen this too...

Perhaps you can post some pictures for comparison?
