McLaren MCL38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This is Oscar's car. Perhaps only Lando will have updates.

According to AMuS production of part of the Imola package was brought forward and it's expected that the underbody and the cladding will be worked on. So I'm not sure we'll get new wings here.

We are waiting for photos with updates.

Looks like the same sidepods also. At least the inlets.
Yeah, you’re right about this.

that's a chonky rear wing compared to RBR though similar to the Merc it seems
Um, no. The Merc's rear wing is comparable to what McLaren used at Suzuka and Shanghai. And here McLaren uses a wing from Jeddah. It generates less downforce.

My guess is that Merc have never been able to add stability and downforce at the rear.

While both the main plane and DRS flap look a bit large compared to both Ferrari and Red Bull it does have a more offloaded sections outside the DRS flap. Let's see what the beam wing looks like.

I've seen the squared off winglets before I think, but whether this is an original combination I'm not sure.

It looks like the Australia wing to me...

To me it looks like there aren't any new parts fitted yet. Have compared with Bahrain floor for instance.

No, it isn't apparent. Front wing isn't on show though.

At first glance, there are no changes at all. But this is Oscar's car. Who knows in what configuration the car of Lando and Oscar will take to the track today.

You can imagine how much different Lando's car will be. I think there will be a lot of changes, it’s just that the team hides its updates until the last minute.

The angle is different for McLaren which gives the illusion of a chunkier wing as well.

Same as Australia I think, including the wingtip.

🎙Andrea Stella about the MCL38 upgrades:

🗣 "From a continuity point of view, let's say that there are some important innovations . True, perhaps less flashy but certainly very demanding from a technical point of view .

For example, the front suspension changed significantly"

Interesting.
It’s probably a 0.2mm change of position
