Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Done to make browsing easier - no more stickies until each car is launched.

So, F2012 was poor in qualifying ALSO(or mainly?) because it couldn't heat front tires (Fry's words).
But why was so competitive in lap1?
Got immediately the tires in temperature there

for first part of season i agree, but mostly because car had poor downforce and traction. for second part of season Fry was lying, Ferrari was eam who most improved their traction so this caused good competitive times over one lap, they would be even better if everything in wind tunnel worked okay.

Obviously there's a difference in handling with full tank and on fumes. Also, their KERS was very good at the start.

Ferrari gearcase

Ferrari shifted to Rear Pull Rod suspension for 2012, this necessitated a new gearbox casing. No doubt the Toro Rosso solution inspired Ferrari approach to their powertrain design. They were perhaps also mindful of the stiffness\weight challenge of split case, so their design is a progression from Toro Rosso’s. With the access benefits of a separate inboard suspension module, but not by employing a split case.

As scarbs has advertising on his blog I don't think it's right to post so much here. Post a summary and a big link. Dragging the images over is even more impolite....

Not only for the advertising, also for the respect at his work.
If you want to publish or bring attention to his posts, you should just copy and past the first 5 or 10 lines of his article, (one picture at least to illustrate) but after that 5 or 10 lines there should be a highlighted READ MORE... that when you click on it, links directly to his blog.
