Primordial Superbike Racing.

Post

Here is a championship winning 'Superbike' from ~40 years ago.. http://www.ma.org.au/index.php?id=1728
..back when modified production/street bike racing started getting really popular..
"Well, we knocked the bastard off!"

Ed Hilary on being 1st to top Mt Everest,
(& 1st to do a surface traverse across Antarctica,
in good Kiwi style - riding a Massey Ferguson farm
tractor - with a few extemporised mod's to hack the task).

Interesting period footage there Strad, but the racing machines featured therein are pukka GP bikes..
'Superbikes' are ex-production road bikes, as modified for racing purposes.. ..like this..

Not at all Strad, the posted vid is cool..
& by comparison to current day 'Superbikes', those from ~40 years ago - are indeed 'primordial'..

This `73 showroom standard road going Norton Commando - on test - recorded a standing 1/4 mile in 12.75sec..

http://www.classicbike.biz/Norton/Mags/ ... -World.pdf

This compares well with current 'retro' type bikes of similar configuration, such as Triumphs.
& even today, not many showroom standard cars can accelerate that quickly, either..

Not too shabby for an ancient Brit relic.
