Quali done, and ultimately 3s down and 9th fastest car.

Also....look at the laps done all weekend. For a team needing mileage that's not great. Certainly nursing the car so as not to break the engine.

But, I agree with post in the Engine forum, there is an upshift delay and a detuned engine so it is clear that just with reliability improvements the package has potential to be reasonably competitive.

Wow, just imagine if they didn't have problems... they would be right in the mix with mercedes and ferrari... hmmmmm
That's not what I said.

I think I extracted the maximum from the car, so I'm happy in that sense. But probably there's nothing to celebrate being 13th.
That's the feeling I have as well. After testing I was expecting so little that this feels like a victory. But compared to last year they've gone backwards (for the time being).

Both cars were not the same. I don't find any good pics to compare but FA was running the new bargeboard to body connection, stoffel the Barcelona spec. I read in a Belgian newspaper the updates are worth 3 tenths.

Amus pic 53 and 54 show the difference, though not clear on which car. But both pics are from Q.

Excuse me then  I thought I noticed sarcasm in your post and concluded it had been towards me, my fault. It does raise a question, do you truly believe McLaren is up there with Mercedes and Ferrari, chassis-wise? I have heard this in previous years, and everytime McLaren was not performing on tracks where a good chassis would show. Maybe you have good arguments for thinking this year it's different, but I'm curious to know what those arguments are.

No problem then... :)
And I honestly don't know and can't be sure in any of it, but a guy can believe... :D
Looking at the times, and the fact that the engine is rubish and detuned currently, and that leeds to not beeing able to push the chassis to the limit... who knows...

. "Het klopt dat Stoffel hier rijdt met de auto zoals die in Barcelona tijdens de wintertests was. We hadden nieuwe onderdelen klaar voor één auto, en die hebben we op de auto van Fernando gemonteerd.
As stated above, Stoffel was using the Barcelona spec but Boullier said that the reason was that they only had the new parts ready for one car... weird.

They improved .7 seconds over last year, it seems like a pitiful development of last year's car, this cannot be all they were able to eke out of the new regulations. It really is disappointing how little they've improved compared to the others. Especially when the cars are supposed to be 3 seconds faster, they really seem to have under delivered.

Fair enough! It's good to stay optimistic. As I said, I'm hopeful McLaren and Honda can turn this around. Wazari seemed very positive about the new engine, and he obviously knows more than we do. If he has got faith in the potential of the engine, then I do too. I am sure we'll soon see analyses of how the strength of the car in corners compares to the competitors.
