Sauber C31 Ferrari

Yes but many teams have a separate crash structure "inside" the nose. That way they can change the nose while keeping the internal crash the same

This midfield team is very innovative. I like the starter hole solution as well as the exhaust treatment.

Where is the intake on their nose?

It's probably the cockpit.

dunno if its been said but i think we're just going to see a new nose that fits flush with the tub.

nope.. it will remain. that hole is very cleverly placed.

why and how has it been cleverly placed?

im guessing its not sucking air in and i cant see a hole infront of it to duct the air. so the air must be coming from further back in the car and being ducted forward which cant be to efficient.

The top leading edge of the step. Just behind there is a very low pressure point. This is due to the air accelerating over the edge of the step.

There are different ways to alleviate this problem - I think this hole right behind the top edge of the step allows air from some other source to fill in that low pressure area.

That Ferrari solution has been effectively outlawed, besides it was really only valid when the center was the MOST aggressive part of the front wing, now the center is the LEAST aggressive part of the wing.

That Ferrari slot was to remove blockage behind the aggressive "spoon" of the 2008 front wing, thereby allowing better wing performance

It is very difficult to make prediction or educated guesses at this point.
Also last year all the discussion on exhaust did not bring the level of shared knowledge on this forum much forward I think.

One could maybe make some conjecture based on estimate and momentum conservation equations, it would be interesting to see if the "scratches" on the mclaren floor are really burns caused by the exhausts.
I love your observation about the forum's understanding of the EBD, but then alot of these people weren't here for the bloodletting.

It's not a vent at all.

Their next nose will likely feature a step very similar to the one on the STR7. Due to the chassis being homologated, the shallow slope between the ridges had to be built-in as a permanent fixture even if it wasn't going to be used with the nose they brought to the first test.

It's anticlimactic, but I'm dead certain that's the reason for it.
From what I understand, they've lifted the chassis homologation. Now if you want a new chassis, you just have to repass the crash tests

Edit: what kind of ass posts 3 times in a row?

so you could have 2 different shaped chassis' one that would benifit from high downforce and one for low downforce?

Forget about the 2008 Ferrari though.
I don't know about that car.
I am talking about the use on the 2012 Sauber.

What I tell you above is what happens. That low pressure peak is always there around bends.
