Great laps from Lewis both laps good enough for pole, the gap bigger than I thought it would be after this morning.

Pathetic that Ferrari used Kimi to compromise both Mercs' second run (warmup)

The blatant disrespect of track limits is getting more ridiculous by the minute.
Have you got annoyed by it just now? I mean, it's has been very rare when Charlie Whiting bottered to enforce tracklimits. They have all been getting away with it for at least some 6 years. I remember many poles with drivers going off the track and nothing happened.....

What annoys me is the inconsistency, sometimes they are super anal about it... this weekend however is everything goes, don't even bother... and drivers are of course taking this to extremes.

Kudos to Hamilton, the race should be tight, if Vettel engine lasts of course, shame this championship is over.

It had never happened this season at all, that either Merc or Ferrari interrupting the qualifying laps of each other. This is the first time and they really were sour. On first run, it was Force India and on second, it was Kimi. That seriously sucked. Everything seemed intended. All qualifying, up until the last lap, Kimi was doing better than Vettel and it seems like the exercise to spoil Lewis' lap, costed Kimi.

Toto said on German TV that he has no idea why Hamilton and Bottes both could not improve their times.

It was so obvious that Kimi interfered them intentionally before the last lap.

My question: Is that really allowed?

Good point made on TV about pole being on the dirty side of the track. First corner might be a bit juicy...
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

What means interfered? Didnt go outside the track so that Mercs can have nice prep lap? Thats just how it goes and how you judge traffic. They are generally first out so they dont have to deal with it...

Btw Hams S1 was his PB, its S2 that was bad in second run as you really have to connect S1-S2 on this track

The FIA and Charlie are a JOKE...
Why would they enforce track limits during free practice?
Because it's an official session ? If it was private testing, then it would be a different matter..

It should be nipped in the bud in Australia. All solid white lines should be respected. Every corner at every track.

The lap time depends hardly on tire management.
Kimi overtook Hamilton on warm-up lap and destroyed his and Bottas' s second try.

1. It never happened before that both Mercedes drivers' last try in Q3 was slower than the one before.

2. It never happened before that a slower driver overtook the fastest driver on his warm-up lap.

Another record falls. This time the most front row starts.

I know some are blind to it but you don't keep breaking records like the ones he is unless you ARE that good.

Merc's commitment to F1 doesn't look like it's gonna wane off in the coming years. Hamilton can be the most successful driver ever. The only record that realistically looks out of reach is Michael's 7 titles.

I don't think even that is out of reach - though it'll take a fair amount of luck to have a competitive car in every remaining season he's in F1.

I'm a little underwhelmed as far as how fast the cars are around here. I was expecting more, but less than 2 seconds improvement. Hell Alonso wasn't even able to beat last year's pole with a 2017 car that has a full season of development.

I think you will find that the high winds severely hampered all the teams.
