The high downforce part is S2 not S3. I find it hard to believe that Vettel will have maximum downforce and still top S1.

S3 is most like fast 90 degree turns. S2 is fast, aggressive, free flowing. Its impossible to say who is on a high downforce configuration as we dont know fuel loads and tyre conditions. Impossible to predict.

It only shows Red Bull have Supeior Traction.

S3 you get help from traction and braking. Extra downforce can help with that, as it does in Monaco...

In sector 2, the only place downforce really helps are turns 9 and 11/12, and braking for 10. Turn 7/8 are easy flat. 12 might look flat but it's not, even with a wide entry and a good car.

I'll wait until after FP2. The dust plumes here are incredible - I'll wait until they clear.

Looks to me like Red Bull are doing a first stint fuel load versus a second stint load for McLaren/Ferrari. Looking back at my notes from last year FP I had fuel effect at about a tenth - 0.101 to 0.103, to be exact.

I haven't taken a proper try at fitting a degradation & fuel model on the long run data yet, but taking Hail22's post at face value, if you did the rough maths - 1:46.3 - 1:44.920 is 1.38s difference. Taking an average fuel effect of 0.102, that leads to around 13.5 laps of fuel difference - enough of a difference to be the difference between first and second stint loads.

Current seems to show it will be a close race. Hoever as history this year has shown that typically means the RedBull will race into the distance in the first stint with the Ferrari and McLaren's closing in in the later phase of the race.

Not sure why you quoted me...my post is in regards to the "Fastest" lap posted from the race sim laps...however yours are based on the average from the race sim *confused to the reasoning behind quoting me* :? :?

Take into account that RB usually puts about 90% fuel in their tanks. They optimize long runs for the period after first few laps. However, they weren't that quick on Friday in Japan (they were quickest IIRC, but by small margin), yet race was something different. Massa had good pace in Japan, similar situation here.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I don't know about your data, but I had the RBs at 0.4 up from McLaren in Japan, and (strangely) Massa 0.9s up (quicker) than RB. In hindsight Massa was doing a 2nd-stint fuel load simulation.
