Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Re: Honda Power Unit

Post

Please guys. This thread is about the Honda power unit. More specifically, its performance and technical design.

It is NOT about McLaren's use of the Honda, not contracts, not the quality of McLaren's chassis, and not the rumours of McLaren switching to use some other power unit.

I believe more posts will have to be moved around again :?

he's making a joke about "spec" and "seppuku" sounding similar with that accent. Google seppuku if you don't know what it means.

well iam wondering if there are some pics for the 2017 PU i feel there was not much pics of it, detailed pics like the 2016 PU
in other note i think Honda 2017 PU development is almost identical to 2016 development in last year Silverstone they
became competitive with williams and FI at least almost , and they were to introduce the pre-chamber in Malaysian gp
but late decision not to was taken due to the fact its a dead end development.
para bellum.

He says he expects to be within the top ten until the end of the season. Alonso didn't really get to set a fast lap with the new engine in Baku, but yes they were last in FP 1 & 2.

The rest of his comments are weird.

He says, any upgrade is welcome, but there's still a long way to go. I suppose this means even if they gain a second, which is unlikely, there's still another second to go before they can catch the leaders. Also says that the power unit is practically the same, and that the upgrade news may have been blown out of proportion because the team had to release something for the press.

He then goes on to say that he hopes the new spec 3 brings some kind of step forward.

I think the message is more clickbait than actual news. We pretty much expect them to be a little faster in a straight line, how much that translates into lap time we don't know.

Albert Fabrega on Hondas new spec:
https://twitter.com/AlbertFabrega/statu ... 4553330688 The improvement was confirmed with Bakus data. Yet, they only reached about 40% of their planned on-track tests and development program. Here (Austria) they should be able to try out new engine maps

So tuning these cars, aside from being orders of magnitude more complex, is still not too different from tuning any other Honda(MAP sensor(s) based)?
