Ferrari F2012 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

El nuevo fondo + difusor + piezas modificadas para el Ferrari 2012 ya va a ser probado en el túnel

The worst joke I've ever heard guys!
Talking seriously, have you got any ideas about its functioning?

Yup, the nose is defined by the rules.

Obviously ferrari wanted the nose as high as possible but still within the prescribed limits.
The result is there for all to see...

I don't know if I'm in the minority but I really like the look of that nose - it looks very unusual and innovative.Montezemelo and Domenicalli have described the car as ugly and having a weird bump on the nose so I wouldn't be surprised if this is how it actually looks.
I just wonder what the advantage of this shape would be as opposed to a gentle sloping nose?

Please define my what is ugly? For someone it is for the others not! so what matters if it is "weird", more importand it is its fucnality...

With that design they avoid to change nose height and even they could with shape of "delphin head" redirect air above the drivers head and also make slight cut of air for the airbox and top crash cage ...

Yep; predicted on the first page, in fact.

It looks like a dolphin with brain cancer....

That being said, its not really that extreme. I mean, the rules showed us a verbal preview of the front nose of the cars, and this is pretty similar, just taken a bit further. I wouldn't be surprised if other teams did this too, some maybe even more extreme.

Not so strange really. Dolphins are the fastest mammals in a fluid environment, and airflow is a fluid environment.

However, if this is the final iteration, there would appear to be no effort to use the nose to control airflow.

Why stop at copying the fastest mammal in water?
Does this mean Red Bull will have a black marlin nose?

Seriously though, I think the nose is a deformity caused by the onset of 2012 regulations.
They will not be the only ones with strange noses...IMO.

I don't think the fastest mammal in water would necessarily work though. It would probably signify very little drag; but I'd think an F1 car would need more than that to be fast.
