Huge amount of "free" floor area. They could play tennis on that so to speak. Important to know is that the technology and know how behind the packaging can be used next year, giving an edge in that area even before the 2014 season starts.

The car is very well packaged at the rear, but the last image gives the illusion of the rear floor being more 'free' than it really is. A great deal of the 'floor' in that area is sloped and merges with the cooling exits/engine cover.

Interesting that they went back from the Spa 3-element cascade to the 2-element one.

I try to put words a bit into context:

" No oil in the gear

Gearbox seals may only be broken only under supervision of the FIA races per box rule, Red Bull had to wait till Singapore h to examine the innards of Webbers gearbox. the engineers did not like what they saw. The dogrings were worn excessively. Carbon fibre debris had got into(!) the differential somehow and and damaged an oil line (!). Inside the gearbox almost no more oil was left. A miracle Webber made the flag in Monza .

Originally Red Bull planned to run the gearbox as is on Friday once again to find out more about the causes leading to the bad condition of the box. However discovering the condition of the box this plan was dropped. In Singapore different gearing to Monza is used, all drivers get different gear clusters and dogrings taken from their seasons allocations. However, as long as one does not know what really caused the damage uncertainty remains if this does solve the issue encountered."

I think the Amus text is badly written and maybe a translation already..a broken oil line inside the box would not lead to a loss of oil but a seizure of a bearing or gearteeth not being properly lubricated. The statement was total loss of oil leading to the damage ,cause´d by carbon fibre debris cutting an oil line .My guess is an outside oilline was pierced by carbon fibre debris and this caused the oil loss leading to lack of lubrication and subsequent damage ..?

Vettels box will only be opened on Friday as FIA officials had too much other obligations to attend the dismantling of RBs second gearbox..

Thanks marcush

So if RB feel like Web's gearbox is too damaged for practice tomorrow, it seems unlikely they would risk it for qualifying...

Well you get more downforce from a bigger surface area which the 2 element has but when at high speeds it can stall. The three element has less downforce(less surface area) but it won't be effected as bad at high speed stall. Considering Singapore doesn't really have any high speed corners compared to Spa is probably why they went back to 2-element one.

That is wrong. High speed airflow over a wing is less likely to stall actually. When the airspeed slows down it is more likely to stall. Go and do some research on wings and their profiles.

Just another snippet of information, a wings apparent angle of attack to the airflow changes more as the wing moves up and down while the car is moving slowly through the air than when it is moving quite fast. While these wings operate on the edge of their aerodynamic performance concerning downforce any slight over pitch will cause part of the wing to stall and them to lose downforce

Yeah the speed might be wrong but the point of having more profiles is to counter stalling and better downforce creating on the inne edge when the tyre turns.

It does bring up the point that they created a 3 element cascade for only one race (I believe they didn't use it in Canada; correct me when wrong). Furthermore, a 3 element cascade can produce more downforce then a 2 element, due the angle-before-stalling is higher.

I see one reason behind it: The cascade is very important to get the air around the tyres, plus creating all sorts of vortices and conditioning air, which Red Bull values more then direct downforce creation for that part. Changing the shape of it could change a signficant part of the aero mapping. Now if the air stalls on the cascade, vortices and air direction changes, which could lead to either loss of floor and rear downforce, more tyre drag, or both. Spa puts alot of load on any wing, so stalling does happen faster. With Red Bull neither willing to change it's overall shape or let it just stall, I think going for 3 elements would be the best solution.

They are running dipped down nose again compared to the streteched square one at Spa and Monza, so we can assume that one was Low DF specific ?

Looks that way... But since they went all the way from lowest downforce to max we can't be absolutely sure.

Maybe on tracks like Texas, Suzuka or Interlagos that nose goes back in the car.
