You're correct with the assumption of cold air (=greater density) producing more power. That's one point.
The higher density of the air also affects the aerodynamic of the car. When considering the formula for drag and downforce, you'll notice the density of air is a factor in it. This means both drag and downforce will rise with colder air.

Then we have to consider the new pirelli tyres which are assumed to be faster than last years version.
And finally, it's testing. Teams can run underweight without beeing punished.

Did i forget anything?
Okay, thank you. But I still find it incredible that all the updates to the car did not breach the perfomance gap due to the air temperature. And why would teams run underweight in testing?

@ around 3.0 min you see another williams outside the garage doors (tarp covered). Did the williams team bring the fw34 also to the test? is it legal to bring 2 cars to a test these days?

Stupid generic question. Kimi is just doing what every driver wishes he could do. i appreciate that, keeps the journos honest.

they used modified FW34... i don't see any reason not to test on the same car.

It will be interesting to see wether Hamilton without coanda will get close to yesterday's Rosberg times
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time
Roam Grosjean ponders the passing of time on the first day of testing at Jerez

That last run is as long as anyone's final stint in last year's race, and faster than anyone's from last year, and about 3 seconds a lap faster than Rosberg's final stint at the start (though admitedly Rosberg's final stint last year was long). Good to see that Merc is making nice progress.

Hamilton will or has even switch to the coanda-version as well this day.
