Caterham CT-05 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

There are pretty brutal looking vertical tabs at the upper far corners of the wings. Will they be creating a lot of drag ? Can I presume the intent is to function as a gurney flap of some sort ?

Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Regarding the sidepod: did it have that 'undercut' on the testing package? (at the left in the image)

The car is still faster then the Red Bull tho, but then again so is everyone :P
Ricciardo went 10th fastest in Bahrain if memory serves me well? With Caterham seconds slower?

But did Red Bull finish a race distance ? Unless they can time travel to the future, a car breaking down will not be fast.

No, they didn't. I did read an interesting comment on another forum forum though, by someone that had a meeting a few days ago with Caterham people. If he's to go by, Caterham was running relatively well because they hadn't cranked the engine up as far as RBR had.

Both are bad when racing: running with reduced power in order to finish, or running with full power but unreliably. In the case of Caterham, it makes sense to bank on reliability. In the case of RBR, they simply have to be running at full speed as soon as possible.

Anyway, good news for Caterham as well, Renault has just given the OK for running full power in Australia.

Look how small those cameras are. Surely they are attached to the nosecone in a way that half of them is hidden inside the vanity panel? Could Red Bull be planning something like this for their nose cameras?

Wow, that is what I would call an aggressive Front Wing. Look at the heavily curved elements at the endplates
