Red Bull RB10 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

New little monkey seat there. Although the monkey would be roasted!

How many wings can the teams put in that area? Could RBR run one above the exhaust like the other teams are too?

No cooling inlets and outlets anymore. Have they fixed it already?

Red bull is the only with the monkey under the exhaust (but maybe they have exhaust higher?)

If there is smoke and unscheduled Interruptions of use One has to conclude RB is using the Package Not Inside Design Limits .so einher they Used wrong Calcs or did. Not calculate at all ,judging demands completely wring orn. cannot use the Package as intended as something in the powertrain is Not yet Meeting requirements.

Apparently not given it has just ground to a halt. From the descriptions given (it was backwards, smoke coming out, couldn't push it back into the garage) it's almost certainly drive train related. Reckon it's a gearbox failure? Either way my guess would be that's all the running we'll see from Red Bull for today. They have one filming day next week and then it's off to Australia in possibly the worst shape we've ever seen the world championship winning team arrive at the first race of a season. At least in recent memory.

The crash structure is also lower. Mercedes, for example, has raised the crash structure allowing for a little winglet underneath and then has the monkey seat above. Creates a cascade of interworking parts from the diffuser all the way up to the rear wing.

AMuS reports Vettel spun because a front brake disk exploded. They are currently checking the brake by wire system. If thats the case, they should be able to get some running in after the brake.

Does the brake by wire system only apply to the rear brakes? So it shouldnt cause a front brake problem ?

Break

The smoke reported at the rear of the car could also be caused by brakes or locked tires? That would be a good thing since replacing a front brake disk doesn't take that long.

This is where Newey already starts to seal the diffusor. Look at the downwash.

Amazing.
That flow pattern with that amount of rake is incredible.
No inverse flow patterns at the TE or especially at the side radius where it is cut open at the end. Even slightly downward flow pattern at the side lower edges. Somehow they managed to seal the diffuser again completely. They really got that footplate vortex working and stable and manage to keep it from being sucked under the diffuser.
You really have to admire that work.

And such a shame (yet probably luck for the competition) that the potential of the car will probably be masked for quite some time by its Power Train. It would have deserved better.
