Mercedes W07 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I don't know if it's just the res of the photo, but the nose looks somewhere between the W05 and W06 styles.

That airbox almost reminds me of the W01...

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think there was no 360° cam mounted. The air intake seems to be quite big. Why should the curved "splitter" be mounted on the 360° cam and the monocoque?

What are these holes on monocoque for (two round holes in the carbon fibre lami)? ANSWERED

The W06 didn't have those flow conditioners by the mirrors last year did it? Looks new.

It had flow conditioners there, but not in this shape. They are new.

Watched the video again. No flow conditioners on and maybe only between this "flap" and the sidepods! And of course a wider fin in front of the driver because of the new cam.

/edit
Two thoughts:
- The flow conditioners are between the sidepod and this "flap". The horizontal line of this "flap" seems to be higher than last year. The shape flows down to the monocoque and not upwards like last year.
- The flow conditioners are gone or maybe just tiny ones like between the front wing flaps and the upper horizontal line of the sidepod was raised (bigger sidepod undercut? maybe to make effect of the raised gearbox much more effective...).

/edit2
Watched the first video again too.

- Definitely round shaped and bigger cooling inlet (not triangluar anymore).
- Shape of sidepod upper and outer edge seems to be more angular and less rounded.
- Maybe a bit bigger weelsbase? Seems to be.

/edit3
At the moment i am quite sure we will see a car with a bigger (i think much bigger) sidepod undercut on monday.

Of course Torro Rosso had the massive airbox last year and car turned out to very good aerodynamically, so perhaps it is actually a better trade of to apportion more of your cooling needs there than, say, in the sidepod openings.

Something just occurred to me... Could the huge round thing some of us are thinking is the airbox actually be a fan or something to feed air into the engine in the garage and the perspective is just off a little??

What would be nice is if they made a big mistake with a huge air intake. That would spice things up a bit.
For Sure!!
